The 'Human Nature Painting' series by Nash Francis is concerned with four of the basic tenets of humanity; culture, power, politics and history. They take the form of heavily abstracted architectural landscapes- either in modern ruin or in states of transition. Francis seems determined to understand, not the effects of this architectural landscape upon humanity, but rather the effects of humanity upon the urban landscape. His study of the humanisation of our modern concrete surroundings evokes a collection of explorations into the depths of society, environment and human behaviour.

The new solo exhibition by the local Artist & Poet John Lyons was installed this morning by Ovenden Contemporary. The exhibition is called 'Chimera: Myth & Colour' and marks the first solo exhibition of his work since his exhibition at Three Cups Gallery in Ely in 2005.

In the true spirit of our now well-established exhibition programme, the Needhams Open Art Competition was launched by Ovenden Contemporary in 2008 to create an exciting opportunity for new and emerging visual artists from around the world, culminating in the current exhibition of the shortlisted work during April/May 2009.

We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of abstract paintings by the Cambridgeshire-based Artist:"Kerrecoe expertly taps into the insecurity, the unsettling fear that we are not actually in control of our selves, of our identities.....of who we really are."
Kerrecoes' work, frequently abstract, invariably focuses on the concept of identity. He seems driven by a desire to understand who he is and what makes him that person. Is he little more than a machine, programmed to function in an extremely specific way? Is his identity just an elaborate illusion, the result of billions of chemical reactions?
